Who You Are
Graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing
Maintains a current license with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners for Vocational Nursing
Have a current card for the successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR – Healthcare Provider)
At least one‑year experience as charge nurse in a geriatric setting preferred
Has effective communication skills, both oral and written
Utilizes the nursing process to deliver nursing care to an individual or group of residents and accepts assigned responsibilities as an accountable member of the Carillon team
Works as a team and assist all other department members when needed
Able to work cooperatively with other healthcare professionals and other departments within the system
Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Communicates with internal and external contacts in a professional manner
Shows the ability to demonstrate initiative by actively seeking additional duties, as well as accepting and performing all other duties as assigned
Able to maintain a professional relationship with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff by demonstrating appropriate interpersonal skills and demeanor
Possesses knowledge of and implements infection control and universal precaution practices
Summary
The Licensed Professional Nurse provides direct nursing care to residents and delegates and supervises the care provided by our Quality of Life Specialists/Resident Assistants.
Essential Job Duties
Accurately and precisely administers medications/treatment and documents all medications in accordance with department procedures and expected practices
Informs physician, nurse manager, or responsible party/family of changes in resident’s condition or incidents when appropriate
Ensures each resident’s Care Plan is followed to meet the residents’ needs and state requirements
Supervises and assists assigned Certified Nurse Aides and other nursing staff, delegating assignments and ensuring completion
Makes walking rounds with departing nurse and frequently throughout shift including visual and physical assessments, controlled drug counts, and thorough and complete report
Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Ensures all transfer, discharge, and admission information is complete according to policy and practice
Completes all duties on shift task sheet, monthly summaries, and quarterly assessments
Recognizes, reports, and charts potentially serious clinical manifestations and administers and documents treatment within the scope of authority and practice
