Overview
Under the direction of physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and clerical support as needed.
Responsibilities
Perform patient care activities including vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients, including discharge.
Assist staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical tasks.
Direct incoming calls, respond to patient calls, enter patient charges in the computer system, maintain patient charts and unit files, manage secretarial supply levels, and maintain a safe and orderly environment.
Qualifications
Education: HS/GED required.
Education preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
License, Certification and/or Registration: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.
Experience: Requires previous patient care and/or two years of clerical experience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in clerical and patient care roles will be considered.
Additional skills/abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
