Position OverviewThe Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant will support the open-heart surgical program and work collaboratively with surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
This role involves clinical decision-making, surgical support, and perioperative management while also providing leadership and mentorship to other team members.
Key Responsibilities Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including open-heart surgeries
Provide first assist support in the operating room
Perform patient assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and medications
Deliver pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care
Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and medical staff
Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to PA team members
Ensure high standards of patient safety and quality care
Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant Program (Master s preferred)
Recent OR experience required
Cardiothoracic Surgery First Assist experience preferred
Vessel harvesting experience preferred
Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Current New York State Physician Assistant License/Registration
NCCPA Certification
Unrestricted DEA License for mid-level providers
BLS & ACLS Certification
NYS Infection Control Certificate (renewable every four years)
Experience with Epic EMR preferred
Full-Time 12.5 Hour Day Shifts
Structured rotating schedule
Fast-paced Cardiovascular Surgery Department
Moderate physical activity required
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ability to stand, bend, lift, and maintain surgical dexterity as required
