What We Are Looking For
We are seeking Westchester and Mt. Vernon‑based coaches, college students, and youth development specialists to join our dynamic team from September 2025 through June 2026. As a valued member, you will model our five core values:

What You’ll Be Doing
The Westchester & Mt. Vernon After‑School Coach leads sports and physical activity sessions that engage youth in fun, safe, and inclusive play. Coaches serve as role models, fostering relationships, encouraging skill development, teamwork, and confidence. They may also support homework assistance during breaks. This role requires a passion for youth development, strong coaching skills, and commitment to an inclusive environment. Hours range 10–15 per week with competitive hourly rates.

Daily Program Delivery & Expectations

Plan and facilitate age‑appropriate sports, games, and physical activity sessions.

Lead pre‑designed and themed activities in art, STEM, sports, and movement.

Support and engage participants during homework help, snack time, and structured activities.

Adapt lessons for varying skill levels, ensuring full participation.

Promote sportsmanship, resilience, and a growth mindset.

Engagement & Relationship Building

Build meaningful relationships with participants, showing care, patience, and enthusiasm.

Encourage all youth, including less confident or reluctant ones, to engage and feel included.

Serve as a positive role model, reinforcing respect, empathy, and fair play.

Use positive reinforcement and language at all times.

Safety & Supervision

Monitor participants, equipment, and facilities to ensure safety.

Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts following policies.

Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and act quickly when needed.

Team Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with site directors, coaches, and program staff for quality programming.

Communicate effectively about participant progress, incidents, or needs.

Attend required trainings, team meetings, and performance check‑ins.

Professionalism & Representation

Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to engage with youth.

Maintain proper uniform: company shirt or sweater (logo visible), sneakers or close‑toed walking shoes (no Crocs or sandals), athletic shorts or sweatpants.

Uphold the organization’s mission and values both in and out of the program.

Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

After School Program Types

Full After School

– Combines sports, homework help, creative movement, dance, STEAM projects, special events, and fitness games. Coaches work with Co‑Coaches to guide students through each activity.

Teams & Classes

– Provides physical activities and sports‑based group games. Coaches prepare and lead sports and games throughout the afternoon schedule.

Enrichment After School

– Covers STEM, Warrior Fitness, Creative Club, Team Sports, and specialty sports such as Soccer, Tennis, Pickleball, Flag Football, and Volleyball. Coaches develop and facilitate group activities and collaborate with students, other coaches, coordinators, and school administration.

Weekly Schedule
Your schedule involves approximately 10–15 hours per week, primarily from 3 pm to 6 pm, five days a week. Some programs may require extended half‑day schedules (1 pm to 6 pm) once per week.

Compensation
This is a part‑time, hourly position. We offer competitive hourly rates ranging from $20 to $25 per hour based on experience and program type.

Full After School : $20–$23 per hour (starting $20–$22 for less than 2 years, above range for 2–3+ years).

Teams & Classes After School : $22–$25 per hour (starting $22–$24 for less than 2 years, above range for 2–3+ years).

Enrichment (Class Lead) After School : $23–$25 per hour (starting $23–$25 for less than 2 years, above range for 3+ years).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in K‑12 Education, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field (preferred).

At least two years of prior coaching experience or several years of competitive or recreational sport participation.

Strong interpersonal skills for working with children of various ages and partnering with school staff.

Availability Monday‑Friday after school hours (3–6 pm).

Up‑to‑date physical exam and tuberculosis test documentation required before start.

Successful Federal and NY State background checks; willingness to complete Department of Education fingerprinting.

CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.
