PRN Days, one, 8-hour shifts a week, 6:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.; one shift per week and four on call shifts per month

Job Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional. The RN uses the BSWH nursing model to coordinate patient care. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses. The RN develops and implements an individualized care plan and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs. The RN helps patients transition through healthcare without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.
Essential Functions of the Role
Clinical judgement: conduct accurate assessments and prioritize patient and family needs; develop, implement and evaluate nursing care plans; modify plans to meet outcomes.
Clinical inquiry: evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice; facilitate evidence‑based practice changes and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Caring practices: create an attentive, helpful, safe, and therapeutic environment; manage pain to promote relief and healing.
Response to diversity: incorporate culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, status, age, and values into care plans.
Advocacy and moral agency: protect confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families; resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
Facilitation of learning: provide education to patients, families, staff and community; assess learning needs and outcomes.
Partnership: collaborate with colleagues and community to create and implement plans; delegate tasks appropriately.
Systems thinking: use strategies and resources for problem solving; ensure safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care.
Key Success Factors
Knowledge and expertise of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Familiarity with laws, rules and regulations; understand standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies.
Knowledge of medical terminology, risk reduction and disease prevention and management.
Knowledge of patient privacy rights and nursing ethics.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong social skills and critical thinking.
Observation and reporting of changes in patients' medical conditions.
Deliver age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care; adapt care plans.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office, scheduling systems, electronic medical documentation and email.
Qualifications
Education: graduate of an accredited nursing program or equivalent of 2 years’ work experience.
Experience: at least 2 years as an RN.
Certification / License
Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – certified within 30 days of hire.
