
Business Development Manager – Utilities | Remote + Travel

Overview The Business Development Manager will lead national growth within the utility sector, positioning the firm as a trusted owner’s representative long before RFPs are issued. This is a high‑visibility, strategic role focused on enterprise relationship building, market entry, and long‑term account expansion rather than transactional sales. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for building and executing a national strategy to expand utility‑sector relationships and secure long‑term advisory engagements.
Responsibilities Develop and execute a national utility growth strategy focused on enterprise accounts
Build trusted relationships with investor‑owned utilities, facilities leaders, and capital program stakeholders
Secure early‑stage meetings and planning discussions ahead of formal procurement
Position the firm for inclusion on vendor lists and Master Service Agreements
Represent the firm as a strategic advisor in utility real estate, facilities, and capital programs
Drive outbound outreach through networking, warm introductions, and targeted engagement
Partner closely with executive leadership to align strategy and messaging
Execute thought leadership initiatives including lunch‑and‑learns, webinars, newsletters, and blogs
Track activity, relationships, and opportunities using established CRM tools
Travel 30-40% nationally to meet clients, attend industry events, and visit project sites
Qualifications 5+ years of business development or marketing experience within GC, owner’s rep, architecture, or professional services
Strong familiarity with utility real estate, facilities, or capital programs (wet or dry utilities strongly preferred)
Experience navigating long, complex enterprise sales cycles (12-36 months)
Comfortable engaging senior utility stakeholders without immediate project opportunities
Strategic mindset paired with hands‑on execution ability
Confident relationship builder who enjoys outbound outreach and networking
Ability to position value and insight without “selling” a specific project
Experience supporting or delivering thought leadership initiatives
Familiarity with CRM platforms such as HubSpot or ZoomInfo
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: $160,000+, based on experience
6% commission on net profit for every new utility account signed
Ongoing 6% commission on continued and expanded work from the same client
Remote role with national exposure and executive‑level visibility
Direct partnership with the CEO and leadership team
