Job Summary
Operates radiological equipment to make clinical diagnostic x‑ray films as directed by physicians and performs routine diagnostic procedures. The staff member can expect to care for adult patients, including older adults and geriatric, and pediatric patients from newborn through adolescence.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of all general radiology exam protocols for specific exams.

Demonstrates knowledge of exam preparations and patient instructions.

Utilizes radiation protection methods consistently and uses shielding as necessary.

Assesses patient lab values for contrast usage.

Obtains patient history and collaborates with Radiologist on proper contrast usage.

Uses PACS and digital readers to process procedures.

Obtains and examines the procedure request for all necessary information for completion.

Follows proper guidelines for image identification with film markers.

Completes all procedures during the shift without interference to quality of work.

Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary and shows flexibility in job performance.

Demonstrates competence in positioning, knowledge of exposure factors, restraint methods and routine imaging procedures.

Demonstrates competence in all procedures in accordance with the department policy manual.

Demonstrates ability to send images to off‑site reading when needed.

Demonstrates good judgment by following written and verbal instructions carefully.

Assists physician as necessary for all invasive procedures to provide best patient care.

Communicates necessary skill to interpret age‑specific treatment.

Demonstrates ability to modify techniques to assess physical, psychosocial and educational needs.

Capable of assisting other staff in code needs per protocol.

Ensures medication security by keeping products safe and locked up.

Always verifies the procedure by checking the physician order.

Observes the patient and machine during procedure and reports any change in patient’s condition.

Uses policy and procedure manual as necessary.

Requests assistance when needed.

Demonstrates an ability to adapt to change.

Performs duties in an independent manner with little direct supervision.

Maintains accurate patient records.

Maintains assigned work area with adequate supplies and equipment.

Assists in the process of orientating new employees.

Participates in quality assessments.

Demonstrates flexibility in interruptions in workplace in a positive manner.

Performs portable exams when needed.

Adheres to sterile technique protocols when performing surgical procedures.

Utilizes safety equipment to protect self, patient and visitors.

Transports patients to and from department.

Qualifications

Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist.

Registered Radiographer (ARRT).

Graduate of an accredited program in radiological technology.

Certified in BLS from AHA or ARC.

Ability to read and follow verbal and/or written instructions or procedures.

Possess the ability to deal tactfully with all types of personnel and medical staff members.

Hospital experience (preferred).
