Overview
The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill and premature newborns in a fast-paced Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The RN will manage high-acuity patients, support families, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced neonatal care.

Department Overview
Level IV NICU
Average daily census: 71
Patient population: 23 weeks gestation to term infants
First-time travelers accepted
Manager interview required
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care to critically ill neonates
Monitor and manage ventilated patients
Administer medications and blood products
Assist with and manage pre/post-surgical neonatal care
Perform neonatal assessments and interventions
Educate and support families on infant care
Collaborate with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams
Document accurately in EMR
Gavage feeding
Patient Population & Procedures
Premature infants (23 weeks and above)
Surgical conditions including NEC, CDH, and other neonatal complications
High-acuity neonatal cases requiring intensive monitoring
Required Qualifications
Active RN License
BLS Certification - Required
NRP Certification - Required
Minimum 2 years NICU experience
Skills Required
Ventilator management
Central line management
Pre/post-surgical neonatal care
Tracheostomy and G-tube management
Breastfeeding and bottle feeding support
Gavage feeding
Blood transfusion administration
Neonatal IV/venous access skills
Department Support
Nursing Assistants (1:20 ratio)
2 Charge RNs per shift

Floating Requirements

Orientation
NEO (New Employee Orientation)
2 days departmental orientation
Scheduling Details
Weekend rotation: Every other weekend (minimum)
