Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) supports the continuum of care by providing basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living. The position involves performing uncomplicated technical procedures, participating in performance‑improvement activities such as chart audits, and utilizing a variety of technical equipment and supplies. The CNA also provides basic patient‑care support—including patient transport, specimen and blood product transport, and inventory management—requiring initiative, the ability to prioritize demands, and the ability to work in a team environment.

Unit
7 East is a 14‑bed Medical‑Surgical unit located at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest campus, near downtown San Diego. The unit provides specialized care for patients with both medical and behavioral‑health needs.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with activities of daily living for patients.

Perform basic technical procedures and maintain accurate documentation.

Participate in chart audits and other performance‑improvement activities.

Cross‑train in the roles of Hospital Unit Secretary (HUSC) and Continuous Observation Attendant (COA).

Act as a patient sitter and monitor patients to ensure their well‑being and safety.

Collaborate with the unit team, including peer training, scheduling, and administrative functions.

Adapt to different work environments and patient populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Active California CNA license.

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months.

Demonstrated ability to observe deviations from normal.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to adapt to different work environments and patient populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous acute‑care CNA or other direct patient‑care experience.

Previous CNA experience in a psych, behavioral, or memory‑care facility.

Knowledge of Epic, UCSD Paging & Scheduling Systems.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Bilingual in Spanish/English.

Special Conditions

Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center's business needs.

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Compensation
Annual Full Pay Range: $65,396 – $65,396 (prorated if appointment is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $31.32 – $31.32.
Compensation is based on experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
