Their primary role is to assemble and weld various types of pipes and fittings to create HVAC systems according to design specifications.

Responsibilities

Pipe Fabrication: The welder will work with various types of metal pipes, including steel, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum, to fabricate sections and components for HVAC systems. Connects pipes using welded, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused and grooved joints. Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers. Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment such as pumps and cylinders. Tests pipe systems by hydraulic or pneumatic methods. Works alone or with others productively

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the required dimensions and layout of the pipes.

Welding: The welder will use various welding techniques, such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), and stick welding, to join pipes and fittings together. They will operate welding equipment, including welding machines, torches, and hand tools, to perform high-quality welds that meet industry standards and ensure the integrity of the HVAC system.

Pipe Cutting and Preparation: The welder will measure, cut, and prepare pipes and fittings using appropriate tools, such as pipe cutters, grinders, and bevelers. They will ensure precise measurements and smooth edges to facilitate accurate fitting and welding.

Quality Control: The welder will inspect welds for defects, such as cracks, porosity, or incomplete fusion, and make necessary repairs or adjustments to maintain the quality of the welded joints. They will follow established quality control procedures and standards to ensure the safety and efficiency of the HVAC systems.

Collaboration: The welder will collaborate with other members of the HVAC team, including pipefitters, fabricators, and designers, to ensure proper coordination and integration of the fabricated pipes with the overall HVAC system. They may need to communicate and coordinate with other tradespeople involved in the construction or installation process.
