Join our team and help us keep the City of Redding’s vehicles rolling! The City of Redding is looking for a new mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, tire work, and service on a variety of City vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate has specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas- and diesel-powered equipment and one year of automotive service experience. The shift hours for this vacancy are 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM. This role requires the employee to have their own hand tools with a minimum size of 1 inch and provides a $475 tool allowance.

Responsibilities
Perform Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) and repair mechanical defects on all types of City vehicles and equipment, including light and heavy-duty diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles, construction equipment, fire apparatus, towed equipment, and emergency standby generators.
Assist and participate in the general repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment
Perform brake inspections, brake replacement on light-duty vehicles, cooling system services, engine, transmission, and differential oil changes, tune-ups, and valve adjustments
Perform tire repairs and replacements on both light and heavy-duty vehicles
Perform inspections of and collect data on newly purchased vehicles and equipment
Qualifications
Specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel-powered equipment
One year of automotive servicing work
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Successful completion of the ASE Series test, Medium & Heavy‑Duty Truck Series T8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection PMI is required upon completion of probation. Note: The City reimburses employees' costs associated with this certification.
