Nutrition Services - Dietary Aide

As a Nutrition Services - Dietary Aide, you will assist the food service team in creating a positive and healthy dining experience for residents. You will ensure that meals, snacks and hospitality items are prepared, the dining room is set up within the correct serving times, and will work with other department staff to ensure desired service and clean‑up of meals, snacks and hospitality areas.

Safe Food Handling
Understands and follows guidelines for food handling and storage, including all raw and prepared foods.
Tests and records temperatures of hot and cold foods; records temperature of cold food storage areas. Corrects or addresses negative results to the attention of the Nutrition Services Manager.
Properly discards expired or contaminated food.
Properly performs and enforces hand washing, wearing of gloves and use of hair restraints.
Complies with established infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures & uses required protective wear when performing daily tasks.
Food Preparation
Follows and enforces methods to control cross‑contamination.
Prepares food using standardized recipes and in the required amount specified by production worksheets and in accordance with special diet requirements.
Uses available tools (spreadsheet, prep‑at‑a‑glance, production guides) to ensure timely and correct meal production and portion control. Incorporates steps to properly pull, thaw and prep foods in advance of production need.
Ensures foods prepared are served within meal serving hours and that quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
General Food Service Duties
Serves meals in accordance with facility methods and using correct portion control and plating/presentation guidelines.
Performs daily and scheduled cleaning of kitchen and equipment in accordance with established sanitation procedures.
Ensures work area is properly cleaned and sanitized after each task.
Ensures serving line and dining rooms are correctly set up and cleaned after use, including tasks such as rolling flatware, setting tables, maintaining tabletop condiments and centerpieces and other duties as assigned.
Properly stores, chills and reheats leftovers for later use.
Cleans and arranges food storage areas.
Assists other department staff as needed to ensure timely production, service and clean‑up.
Completes kitchen close duties (PM shift) as assigned by Nutrition Services Manager or directed by cook in charge.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Food handlers’ card required.
Previous experience preferred.
Fundamental understanding of sanitations, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Tactfully communicate with co‑workers, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public.
Regular, predictable, dependable attendance.
