
Medical Assistant - Endocrinology

Responsibilities
Triages all calls, schedules urgent/emergent add‑ons, receives and relays test results, and supports referrals and insurance pre‑certifications.
Greets patients and families, performs pre‑examination procedures (vital signs, objective and subjective data collection), and maintains accurate patient records—including order reconciliation, secure messaging, medication and allergy reconciliation, and refills within scope of certification.
Assists provider with examinations and procedures.
Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room setup after procedures, and disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments.
Provides complete patient assessment within scope, performs injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection; may assist with procedures such as EKG, PFT, ABI, and NST.
Maintains a clean and safe environment; may travel to satellite clinics.
Performs clerical duties: filing insurance forms, arranging hospital admissions, answering phones, and updating patient records.
Orders supplies and medications and ensures accurate documentation and coding.
Participates in annual quality and completeness reviews as required.
Operates office software (MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, EMR, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems).
Certifications and Licensures
BLS – Basic Life Support (required within 3 months of hire or transfer).
MA CERT – Medical Assistant: must hold an active certification (RMA, CMA, or equivalent). Preference may be given for completion of an accredited program.
Other credentials: Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Tech Basic/Specialist, Paramedic (Michigan), Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), Fingerprint.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience, Training, and Skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups at all levels.
Minimum 3–5 years experience in a medical office setting preferred; previous physician clinic experience preferred.
Annual OSHA training required; knowledge of OSHA exposure‑control plans.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Must wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or substitutes if required.
Mobility around the facility is required; must be able to perform all job functions as outlined.
Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods, with frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials; must undergo required testing (blood‑borne pathogen and TB).
Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert.
Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and repeated movements.
Physical demand level: Light; lift or carry 11–20 lbs occasionally (0–33 % of the workday) and 10 lbs frequently (34–66 % of the workday).
