Inpatient Psychiatrist Locum Tenens

Location: Kerrville, TX (State Hospital Setting)
Assignment Length: 6 months with option to extend
Schedule Options: 4x10s or 5x8s (40 hours/week)
Compensation: Up to $7,500/week
Employment Type: 1099 (Independent Contractor)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Psychiatrist for a locum tenens opportunity at a state-supported inpatient psychiatric hospital in Kerrville, TX. This role involves providing comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients in a structured, team-based forensic or long-term residential setting.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment planning
• Provide medication management and ongoing psychiatric care
• Manage a caseload of approximately patients per day, including follow-ups
• Complete 2 5 new admissions per week (may vary by unit acuity)
• Lead and participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
• Respond to behavioral health emergencies and provide crisis intervention as needed
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with state hospital policies
• Collaborate with nursing, psychology, social work, and ancillary staff to coordinate care

Practice Setting

• Inpatient / residential state psychiatric hospital
• Adult patient population with serious mental illness and dual diagnoses
• Long-term and forensic psychiatric care environment
• No call required
• Structured, team-based model with strong ancillary support

Requirements

• MD or DO, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
• Active Texas medical license (or ability to obtain)
• DEA license required
• Experience in inpatient or state hospital settings preferred
