Physical Care Assistant (PCA)
Under the direction of the RN or LPN, the Physical Care Assistant assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. The assistant works cooperatively with other team members, recognizes the importance of group goals, and performs designated clinical procedures and non‑clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC, enrollment in a healthcare career program through the high school curriculum, or current co‑worker of Mercy.
Licensure: (not specified)
Experience: None required.
In the state of practice: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175‑hour training program that meets the State of Practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
Certifications: BLS required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within three months of hire.
Other: Minimum Physical Requirements – the position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis; prolonged standing and walking each shift; ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
