Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s new Level II Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides personalized, high‑quality care with a 1:3 RN to patient ratio. This unit cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, including those requiring non‑invasive BiPAP, continuous pulse oximetry, insulin infusions, select cardiac or vasoactive drips, chronic tracheostomy ventilation, acute stroke care, spinal drains, transvenous pacemakers, and arterial monitoring. As a Critical Care Float RN, you are responsible for providing nursing care to patients of all ages.
Responsibilities
Work Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with 3 holidays per year.
Complete ongoing assessments, recognize significant changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
Develop and update goals as needed and involve the patient/family (or designee) in development.
Provide nursing care and administer medications/treatments.
Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes and contribute to the improvement of care.
Delegate tasks/assignments to employees according to their abilities, serve as a resource person and acknowledge peer accomplishments.
Complete the Critical Care Course and NIH Stroke Scale training (if new to critical care during orientation) and obtain ACLS and TNCC certification within one year of appointment.
Review and document progress of care and discharge goals with patient/family.
Identify need and accept responsibility for becoming a consistent caregiver for patients with complex care needs.
Participate in and document patient care, discharge planning and case management conferences and communicate information at shift report.
Assist in orientation of RNs, LPNs and other hospital personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross within one year of hire
One year of current RN ICU or acute care experience in a hospital setting
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Two years of critical care experience
Physical Requirements
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
