The certified Sterile Processing Technician within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) performs all tasks associated with the processing of surgical instruments and medical devices, including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high‑level disinfection; monitoring environmental conditions, sterilization processes, and high‑level disinfection processes; assembly and dispatching of case carts and emergency carts; and inventory and ordering of SPD supplies.
Responsibilities
Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and case carts. Performs duties in the processing area, maintains knowledge of instruments and trays, and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets.
Checks expiration dates on sterile items and takes appropriate action if outdated items are found.
Demonstrates proper phone etiquette and uses proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units, visits all required areas, and returns all items to SPD for processing.
Performs functions in the decontamination area, responsible for cleaning instruments, trays, and carts without direction and controlling the workflow.
Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records, accurately entering information into record books required to track processed loads, recording biological indicators, and logging results.
Responsible for SPD department stock, putting away supplies and rotating stock as needed with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Manages daily operations of the business unit in the absence of the supervisor, assigning team members as appropriate.
Manages daily operations in the absence of the coordinator or supervisor (technicians with charge responsibilities), facilitating team member assignments in the best interest of the business unit and patient care.
Operates steam and Sterrad sterilization equipment in compliance with manufacturer instructions, policies, procedures, and Infection Prevention.
Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High school diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
Experience with STERRAD sterilization.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
National Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).
Working Conditions
Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
Compensation
Starting at $22.77 hourly.
