Overnight Kennel Technician
Reports To: Kennel Manager Job Type: Part-Time Location: Melbourne, FL
Job Summary
The Overnight Kennel Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment for all boarding dogs during overnight hours.
This position is cleaning-intensive and requires a reliable, detail-oriented individual who can work independently while ensuring all dogs are properly cared for and comfortable throughout the night.
This role requires a high level of accountability, as the technician is responsible for the facility and all animals during overnight hours.
Key Responsibilities
Perform deep cleaning and sanitization of kennels, runs, and all facility areas
Ensure all dogs have clean water, clean bedding, and a safe environment at all times
Conduct routine checks on all dogs throughout the night
Monitor for and report any signs of illness, injury, or distress
Assist with administering medications as directed
Maintain overall facility cleanliness, including floors, drains, and common areas
Immediately address any messes, accidents, or unsafe conditions
Prepare the facility for the morning team by ensuring all areas are clean, organized, and fully set
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Animal care experience preferred (kennel, daycare, vet clinic, or shelter)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards
Comfortable working around dogs of all sizes and temperaments
Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks
Schedule Requirements
Overnight shift (hours to be determined, typically evening through early morning)
Weekends and holidays required
Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday
Shift time 10PM-6AM
Performance Expectations
Cleanliness and sanitation are top priorities of this role
All cleaning tasks must be completed thoroughly and consistently each shift
Dogs must always have access to clean water and a safe, sanitary environment
Overnight checks must be completed as scheduled - no missed rounds
Employees are expected to remain productive and on task at all times
Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination
Preferred Experience
Prior animal care experience strongly preferred
