Position
Lab Assistant I – Histology (On‑Call) – Brick, NJ. Hospital‑based position at Ocean.

Compensation
Pay range: $17.76 – $26.64 per hour. Salary offers consider skills, experience, education, and may include an annual bonus.

Benefits
401(k) plan eligible after one month; fully vested match of up to 5% of pay after one year. On‑call employees are eligible for 401(k) pre‑tax and/or Roth IRA with company match of up to 5% after 12 months of service.

Responsibilities

Perform routine activities involved in the preparation of histopathology slides under general supervision and in accordance with policies and procedures.

Receive, collect, label, and prepare tissue specimens for gross dissection.

Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.

Monitor inventory and requisition supplies before depletion; stock and maintain laboratory supplies.

Clean, sterilize, organize, and maintain work area, glassware, and laboratory equipment (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, and supply cabinets).

Perform coverslipping of stained slides both manually and with automation.

Perform all assigned clerical duties.

Comply with all health, quality, and safety policies, procedures, and practices, and use personal protective equipment as required.

Qualifications

One (1) year of prior histopathology or other laboratory experience and/or training (preferred).

High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).

Some college courses in science preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; over 50 lbs requires assistance.

Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods.

Frequent walking and/or standing.

Use of various laboratory instruments requiring significant manual dexterity.

Knowledge

Basic knowledge of operating non‑complex instrumentation.

Skills

Ability to follow a series of steps without confusion or errors.

Detail‑oriented; work independently; establish priorities and handle multiple tasks for maximum department efficiency.

Communication and interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co‑workers, and clients.

Ability to handle client information confidentially.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.

Typing speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
