About Grand Junction Regional Center
Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is one of three Regional Centers in Colorado that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have intensive needs. Established in 1919, GJRC offers Intermediate Care Facilities/Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD) homes and Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS Waiver) homes. The center serves a diverse population from high‑risk individuals to those with significant medical challenges. Programs are individualized to meet varying needs, providing residential services, health services, mental health intervention, day programs, vocational and specialized habilitation, speech, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, and nutritional services.

About the Position
The role provides dietetic services to residents of the Grand Junction Regional Center, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and delivering appropriate diets for medically/psychiatrically complex individuals while honoring personal preferences. The position also educates staff and residents on healthy meal planning, preparation, serving sizes, caloric intake tracking, and safe food handling.
Primary Job Duties
Dietetic Services / Nutritional Therapy
– Analyzes clinical lab data and physician orders, records dietary data in the electronic health record (EHR), and provides information to multidisciplinary teams at least quarterly and annually. Oversees monitoring and compliance for safe food temperatures, and uses evidence‑based practices to create individualized dietary care plans and assessments during admission, quarterly, and annually.
Training / Development of SOPs
– Acts as a subject‑matter expert for dietary procedures and SOPs, writing, training, and reviewing documents aligned with CDPHE, HCPF, and Health Department regulations. Develops learning and supports Individual Support Plan programs in the EHR, monitoring learning and support programs with quarterly and annual record reviews.
Menu Planning and Purchasing
– Oversees living‑site menu submission, review, follow‑up, and approval. Develops menus specific to diagnoses related to food consumption or the digestive system, maintains an electronic tracking system of menus, and monitors IDDSI menu books for relevance and updates.
Collaboration with Team Members
– Participates in quarterly and annual person‑served meetings, communicates with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams regarding dietary issues, and coordinates nutritional components of medical care with medical personnel.
Other Duties as Assigned
Position is 100% in‑person. Work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with possible evenings and weekends. Shift assignments are determined upon hire and may change.
Minimum Qualifications, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Qualifications
Current and valid Registered Dietitian license.
Five (5) years of relevant experience in nutrition‑related services and direct care work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess and maintain a current, valid, and unrestricted Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Conditions of Employment
Full Background Check including name and fingerprint checks, court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, and other relevant checks.
State of Colorado residency at application and throughout employment (unless otherwise identified).
Must hold a valid, non‑restricted Colorado Driver’s License or a non‑restricted U.S. Driver’s License for locations within 30 miles of the Colorado state border.
Shift work required – ability to work any shift, day, or area to meet agency needs.
Travel between remote sites and vehicle use (state or personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement).
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., bend, kneel, squat, and perform interventions throughout employment.
Former state employees disciplined or terminated must disclose and explain circumstances.
