Job Summary
St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician III for our Sterile Processing Department located within the Florence hospital. Shift/Hours: Full Time, 40 Hours, Any Shift. The role leads the daily operations of Sterile Processing by ensuring efficient and effective cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and tray assembly of instruments and equipment according to established standards of practice. Provides input on how to perform tasks and achieve goals, manages multidisciplinary departments, trains staff, monitors performance daily, leads special projects, supports a cost‑effective environment, prepares departmental reports, monitors processes and oversees record‑keeping. Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors, and employees regardless of cultural background.
Key Responsibilities
Operations:
Provide input to management for performance appraisals and counseling/disciplinary actions, assist in implementing departmental goals consistent with mission, collaborate across departments to ensure appropriate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies, ensure efficient case cart and sterile core cart processes, schedule and supervise technician training, load, operate, and test sterilizers, interpret instrument results, maintain sterilizers and endoscope processors.
Quality/Customer Service:
Develop and maintain interdepartmental relationships, communicate effectively with staff and physicians, monitor sterilization process documentation to ensure infection control adherence, timely follow-up and resolution of concerns.
Financial Accountability:
Assist in meeting departmental financial goals by adjusting staffing as needed and demonstrate cost effective utilization of supplies and equipment.
Professionalism:
Demonstrate leadership skills, provide technical guidance on complex issues, organize responsibilities within the team, ensure ongoing personal growth and development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
High School graduate.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT). If working in Endoscopy Department, CBSPD or CER.
Specialized Knowledge
Knowledge of perioperative instrumentation, sterilization, and AAMI standards; Joint Commission and AORN standards.
Computer entry skills.
If working in Endoscopy Department, competence in SGNA Guidelines.
Experience
Two years of sterile processing experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
If working in Endoscopy Department, experience in Endoscopy Technician role.
