Position Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)
Department: Special Student Services

Location: Neah-Kah-Nie School District

Reports To: Coordinator - SPED

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule, Range $33.22 - $38.47 per hour; DOE

FTE: 0.40 FTE (Two days per week, 8 hours per day)

General Description
In alignment with the NWRESD mission statement, and as a contributing member of the educational team, this position supports the development of student communication skills essential for academic and social success. Under the direction of a licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA implements speech and language programs and services tailored to students’ individual needs. The SLPA provides direct support to students with a broad range of communication disorders, including language, articulation, fluency, voice/resonance, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). All services are delivered in accordance with the supervising SLP’s guidance and within the scope of practice defined by the SLPA license.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

Associate’s degree from an SLPA program or completion of college‑level coursework meeting state licensure requirements.

Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting.

Current SLPA licensure through the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology.

Valid driver’s license, available transportation and proof of auto insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Regular conferencing with immediate supervisor.

Proficiency in computer and internet‑based applications, including email, Google Suite, and MS Word.

Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.

Essential Functions

Provide direct treatment assistance to students as directed by the supervising SLP.

Follow documented therapy plans and instructional strategies developed by the SLP that are appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students and are selected through an evidence‑based decision‑making process in accordance with the IEP/IFSP documentation.

Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity in language acquisition with linguistically and/or culturally diverse populations.

Implement a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment, including pull‑out and in‑class supports.

Address social, academic, and vocational needs that impact the attainment of educational goals.

Support use and maintenance of AAC devices and technology.

Schedule and maintain appropriate records and data (including Medicaid billing) when applicable.

Assist with screening procedures to identify students with potential speech‑language needs, including hearing screening.

Provide direct intervention assistance to students as identified by the supervising SLP by following IEP or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding feeding/swallowing.

Document student progress toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IFSP/IEP and report this information to the supervising SLP. Review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.

Assist the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session, prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified.

Perform other job duties as assigned.
