Occupational Therapist OT-TR, Full Time, First Shift, Psychiatry

Role Overview:

Provide occupational therapy services for psychiatric patients, including assessment, planning, and implementation of treatment programs while following hospital and department policies and maintaining professional conduct.

Responsibilities

Engage in population appropriate communication.

Know growth and development milestones and tasks.

Give clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.

Involve family/guardian in assessment, initial treatment, and continued care.

Identify physical limitations and implement appropriate intervention.

Recognize and respond to behavioral health issues.

Interpret population‑related data and plan care accordingly.

Recognize and respond to cultural or religious norms and provide culturally sensitive care.

Perform treatments, administer medication, or operate equipment safely.

Recognize abuse or neglect signs.

Understand specialty population needs within Psychiatry Services.

Utilize sensory, trauma‑informed care, and crisis intervention approaches.

Patient Evaluation (35%): select appropriate therapeutic assessment tools, complete comprehensive individualized assessments, develop individualized treatment programs, establish realistic and measurable goals, complete evaluations per policy, recommend/procure needed patient equipment, communicate results, and recommend discharge and community referrals.

Treatment (35%): implement the treatment plan collaboratively, reassess objective findings, deliver care professionally, adhere to safety standards, develop and adjust treatment programs, counsel patients and families, utilize updated techniques, serve on multidisciplinary team, identify appropriate patients, lead therapeutic groups, monitor responses, mitigate risk, maintain safety, and participate in safety protocols.

Documentation (10%): adhere to hospital/department policies, complete documentation timely, comply with regulatory standards, submit accurate charges.

Performance Improvement and Education (10%): participate in performance improvement programs and committees, articulate outcomes, attend educational opportunities, mentor peers and students, complete mandatory education.

Department Operations (5%): accept students, supervise staff, follow initiatives, manage time, attend meetings, maintain a safe environment, promote a positive atmosphere.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA accredited school.

License & Certification: National Registration as an Occupational Therapist, current registration in good standing.

Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills; competency required at hire and every two years thereafter.

Experience: One year in a mental health setting; group‑leading experience preferred. New graduates considered.

Work Environment
Scheduled weekends and holidays per departmental needs. Ability to work alone and in groups. Must navigate secured clinical environments via badge, push‑button, keypad, and key access.

Patient Population Determination
Young adults and adults with psychiatric disorders and conditions involving mood, thought, neurocognitive, intellectual/developmental, substance use, and women’s health issues.
