Overview

Summary: Under the direction of the System Director of Outpatient and Integrated Behavioral Health, ED Behavioral Health Social Workers will function as clinical Behavioral Health Social Workers in the Emergency Department and will conduct emergency clinical assessment of patients. Behavioral Health Social Workers will convey clinical findings and initial treatment and/or referral recommendations to the Emergency Room provider. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will collaborate with the ED team and consult with psychiatry to determine options for appropriate level of care. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will have working knowledge of insurance prior authorization, medical necessity criteria and ASAM criteria. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will have the ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and responsible manner; knowledge of psychiatric medications, community resources and alternative levels of care is required. Ability to manage complex situations with multiple variables in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities

Conduce emergency clinical assessment of patients in the Emergency Department and convey clinical findings to the Emergency Room provider.
Collaborate with the ED team and consult with psychiatry to determine options for appropriate level of care.
Utilize knowledge of insurance prior authorization, medical necessity criteria, and ASAM criteria in care planning.
Manage crisis situations in a calm and responsible manner; apply knowledge of psychiatric medications, community resources, and alternative levels of care as required.
Handle complex situations with multiple variables in a fast-paced environment.
Education

Master’s Degree required in Social Work or Counseling.
Licensure

LICSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC; will consider candidates with MSW with an agreement to obtain licensure within 6 months of employment.
Experience

Minimum one year psychiatric experience is required, preferably in Emergency Services.
Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of psychiatric/medical social work or related clinical field.
Judgment to analyze facts and circumstances and to make independent decisions based on limits of standard or accepted practice.
Ability to effectively use clinical and therapeutic skills.
Skills in organization and priority setting.
Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines.
Ability to utilize sound interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, considering cultural background, linguistic skills, and age of customers.
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements

Lifting up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or carrying items such as files, books, etc. Involves sitting, walking, stooping, and reaching. Access to reliable transportation.
