Certified Medical Assistant-Women's Health Clinic

We are a multispecialty Women’s Clinic located in downtown Charleston at 135 Cannon Street, with a busy clinic featuring over 25 exam rooms and supporting up to 8 providers. We see obstetrical, high‑risk obstetrical, gynecological, surgical, procedural, and family planning patients.

Responsibilities

The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height), and records or inputs information into the patient’s medical record.

Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination.

CMA Minimum Training and Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.

CMA Required Licensure and/or Certifications (One Required)

American Medical Technologist (AMT)

American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

National Health Career Association (NHA)

MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1)

National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)

National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Additional Requirements

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider certification.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs.

Ability to work indoors, outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, and in confined/cramped spaces.

Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions, bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, and perform pinching operations.

Ability to perform gross motor activities, firm grasping, fine manipulation, and reach overhead.

Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.

Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.

Ability to lift from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs and to exert up to 50 lbs of force.

Continuous vision: maintain 20/40 corrected in one or both eyes; ability to see, recognize objects, match colors, determine distance, and have good peripheral vision.

Continuous hearing acuity, with correction if needed.

Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations and work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex‑safe environment.

Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions and, as selected positions, good olfactory sensory function and respirator use qualifications.
