Position Summary
In this role, the NWREC Research Technician manages the Bull & Heifer Testing programs and assists with the 250‑head cattle operation, maintaining facilities and equipment, and supporting research activities.
This position is 50/50 grant‑funded with the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, with continued employment contingent on project needs and available funding.
Responsibilities
Manages the Bull and Heifer Test Programs (daily feeding, health monitoring, data collection, screening and treatment procedures, veterinarian assistance, data reporting).
Assists with management of the 250‑head research cattle operation (feeding, breeding, calving, herd health, research data collection, preparing samples, maintaining and analyzing records).
Assists with forage and row crop activities (operating tractors, hay balers, seed drills, sprayers, pasture management).
Assists with facility maintenance (mowing, spraying fence lines, repairing fences).
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Extensive experience working with cattle and farm equipment.
Georgia’s Pesticide Applicator’s License and Certified Artificial Insemination Certification, or a plan to obtain within the first year.
Ability to collect, maintain, and analyze research data.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Working knowledge of cattle care and farm equipment.
Understanding or ability to obtain required licenses.
Data collection and analysis skills.
Physical Demands
Physically demanding work, heavy lifting, and strenuous activities in varying weather.
Driving as needed to perform job-related duties.
