
Quality Inspector Senior – Mechanical (Second Shift) - Millennium Space Systems

Position Overview
Senior Mechanical Quality Inspector – El Segundo, California. This position is 100% onsite, primarily on 2nd shift.
Position Responsibilities
Performs incoming and in‑process inspections of machined components, composite panels, solar array panels, propulsion tanks, and other precision assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards.
Utilizes precision measurement and inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gages, thread gages, surface plates, depth gages, and Romer Arm, to verify dimensional and geometric tolerances.
Documents inspection results, manages nonconforming material, and drives resolution with Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams, including MRB actions as required.
Reviews and maintains vendor documentation, including Certificates of Conformance, material certifications, test reports, and First Article Inspection (FAI) reports; scans, files, and organizes records in electronic quality systems.
Ensures all measurement and testing equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and operating within established tolerances.
Collaborates with cross‑functional teams (Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Production) to resolve issues and support continuous improvement projects.
Assists in training production and quality personnel to ensure adherence to inspection standards and quality system requirements.
Accurately processes inspection results and material transactions in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Identifies bottlenecks, process gaps, and opportunities for improvement in inspection and material handling processes.
Shift & Working Conditions
Primarily 2nd shift; additional shifts may be required. Must be able to work any assigned shift.
Union Representation
Hourly union‑represented position governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721).
New hires and employees transferring from non‑union roles may be required to attend or complete training within their 90‑day probationary period; continued employment contingent on successful completion.
Security Clearance
Requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required). An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post‑Start is required.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
More than 1 year of experience in Quality Assurance.
More than 1 year of experience in inspection.
More than 1 year of experience conducting inspections using ASME Standards for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
More than 1 year of experience with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
More than 1 year of experience with precision measurement equipment.
More than 1 year of experience reading and interpreting aerospace engineering drawings and blueprints.
More than 1 year of experience interpreting mechanical drawings and work instructions.
More than 1 year of experience using basic Microsoft Office and office computing systems.
Capable of lifting 20 lbs or more on a frequent basis.
Ability to stand and move (reach, bend, or stoop) for extended periods with only short breaks.
Preferred Qualifications
GD&T Training Certification.
CMM or Romer/Faro Arm Training Certification.
Experience with AS9100 and/or similar QMS standard.
More than 3 years of experience performing Material Review Board (MRB) product review.
More than 3 years of experience working with Non‑conformance (NCR) processes.
More than 3 years of experience using electronic, dimensional, and physical test equipment.
