Position Summary
The Head Coach provides leadership, direction, and management for all levels of the wrestling program. This position serves as an educator, mentor, and role model, viewing the program as an extension of the classroom that contributes to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The coach ensures the program aligns with Lakeville Area Schools' Code of Ethics, Belief Statements, and Evaluation Framework, fostering a culture that values character, teamwork, lifelong learning, and community pride.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Philosophy, Program Development & Leadership

Establish & communicate a clear mission, vision, and set of goals for the program that align with district & MSHSL expectations.

Recruit, supervise, & evaluate assistant coaches; provide ongoing mentoring & professional development.

Coordinate out‑of‑season training, youth engagement, and community development opportunities consistent with MSHSL bylaws.

Model ethical behavior and sportsmanship; ensure program compliance with all conference, section, MSHSL, and district regulations.

Promote strength and fitness development, holistic health, and shared participation across programs.

Encourage participation in multiple activities and collaboration across departments.

Professional Coaching Skills

Plan, organize, and deliver purposeful practices and competitions that prepare students physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Communicate effectively with players, parents, and staff setting clear expectations, feedback systems, and healthy boundaries.

Demonstrate sound judgment, composure, and professionalism during and after contests.

Promote team unity, positive motivation, and inclusion across all participants.

Address disciplinary and eligibility issues promptly and fairly.

Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities

Maintain program organization through effective planning, scheduling, and delegation.

Ensure player eligibility, accurate rosters, and adherence to MSHSL and ISD 194 policies.

Manage program budget, inventory, transportation, and facility use responsibly.

Coordinate non‑conference scheduling and site hosting in communication with the Activities Office.

Community & Stakeholder Relations

Build positive relationships with families, boosters, community partners, and local media.

Serve as the public representative of the program displaying professionalism and class at all times.

Collaborate with youth programs, other coaches, and school staff to support a unified school community.

Promote the program through camps, clinics, and positive engagement with the Lakeville community.

Professional Growth & Program Enrichment

Participate in professional development, clinics, and required MSHSL education.

Conduct effective parent‑coach meetings, postseason banquets, and awards processes.

Integrate teaching and coaching philosophies that model lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.

Attend pre‑ and postseason meetings, section seedings, and conference functions as required.

Qualifications

Demonstrated success and experience in participating in, coaching, or advising within the activity.

MSHSL Head Coaching Certification required (or ability to obtain upon employment).

CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred.

Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Compensation

Stipend position per Education Minnesota Lakeville Collective Bargaining Agreement (Schedule C).
