Position Information
The Senior Research Data Analyst will support departments within Research and Economic Development to improve decision making, facilitate continuous improvement of processes and programs, and maximize impact in the region. By understanding generated data from the different processes at RED and deriving insights, the analyst will help create efficiencies, maximize project outcomes, and facilitate integrated grant reporting and progress reports.

The full salary range for the Senior Research Data Analyst is $84,100 - $154,700 annually. However, the budgeted salary range for this position is up to $119,400.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Visa sponsorship is not available.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Requirements

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.

Experience Requirements:

4-7 years of related experience; at least 3 years as a database administrator and with data analytics.

Minimum Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of business intelligence functions, analytics, industry standards and best practices.

Knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools.

Ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation.

Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Detail oriented, with ability to manage time and organize competing priorities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.

Proven ability to serve as a technical resource on business intelligence issues.

Proficiency in data manipulation languages: MS SQL, Oracle Database, or PostgreSQL.

Experience using data analytics and reporting tools such as PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, Excel, Tableau, Looker, etc.

Ability to work under pressure in ambiguous situations.

Basic understanding of domain business processes such as grant tracking and reporting, program management reporting, ERP, performance measurement and metrics development.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency with a diversity of specialized databases, including UCOP databases, SBDC Neoserra, Wellspring Sophia, and BASECAMP.

Key Responsibilities

25%

Consults with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. Writes queries, develops report templates, and dashboards. Creates and supports automated recurring reporting for the office. Structures and implements data collection and analysis strategies for major grant metrics. Works with different OTP members to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

Performs predictive analysis and forecasting to provide information that supports organizational goals. Mines data to quantify relationships and identify issues warranting further analysis. Builds and deploys surveys using Qualtrics and incorporates data in central database. Identifies new data sources and methods to improve data collection, analysis and reporting.

Serves on internal committees and participates on cross‑functional teams to solve business, process, service and systems issues. Acts as RED point person for other data projects and data requests, ensuring accurate results within timelines. Interfaces with economic development partners to collect and exchange data.

Supports team members with systems administration tasks, Kuali Build workflow creation and maintenance, website updates, and documentation efforts.

Conducts on‑going analyses of data sources and data sets. Identifies issues and collaborates on developing solutions to data management challenges.

Identifies and analyzes errors and problems for end users, developing and applying functional solutions and/or conducting specific training. Runs regular reports to ensure data accuracy.

Participates in developing and/or delivering curriculum for end user training. Leads recurring data and reporting office hours and facilitates learning sessions to enhance data literacy.
