Construction Carpenter
A construction carpenter performs a variety of hands-on tasks for heavy civil infrastructure and transportation projects consisting of highway, road, bridge, civil and site work. A carpenter typically reports to a foreman and works within a crew consisting of other carpenters, laborers and other skilled trades on one or more projects within a geographical region, in an outdoor environment and in a variety of weather conditions.
Primary duties and experience:
Layout, build and erect concrete forms consisting of wood and engineered wood systems.
Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and plans to determine quantities, sizes, and types of material needed.
Construct temporary access platforms, stairs, ladders and walkways to and from work areas using lumber and other engineered wood systems.
Provide rigging and crane signaling for concrete construction materials.
Climb scaffolding, ladders, and formwork to conduct duties.
Lift, carry and stack construction materials, tools and supplies.
Provide dunnage, cleats, and tie-downs for equipment and construction materials.
Effectively use saws, drills, hammers, and other small tools and power equipment to perform carpentry work.
Ensure safe outcomes for each project or task in accordance with the SSHASP.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in heavy construction (civil infrastructure, roads, bridges, cast-in-place concrete, and underground utility systems) or related work. Able to follow pre-construction instructions and execute tasks on-site with minimal supervision. Understands when a task requires assistance and knows how to collaborate with others. Capable of working independently while maintaining communication with foreman for real-time decision-making. Possesses strong planning and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates physical dexterity and endurance to complete demanding tasks safely and efficiently using assigned personal protective equipment. Works comfortably at heights with proper safety equipment. Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 75 lbs. Performs all assigned tasks with professionalism and high standards. Ability to travel to and from job sites independently. Must have own hand tools. Able to obtain TWIC, DBIDs, or other similar credentials requiring a background check for access to restricted or government sites.

Location: Richmond, VA and surrounding areas
Travel Requirements: Works within an operating region that may require one-way travel distances of up to 100 miles. Occasional overnight travel to other regional offices may be required.
