Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) Pilot
As an Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) Pilot for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Pittsburgh, PA office, you will support our clients and offices nationwide. Operations will include flying multiple unmanned aircraft equipped with LIDAR, photogrammetry, video, magnetometer, and other sensors. You will be expected to align with CEC's commitment to safety, training, FAA regulations, client first service, and client satisfaction. While the bulk of your work will be in PA, OH, and WV, UAS Pilots cover projects across the country and are expected to travel as needed to accomplish the missions. You will be responsible for coordinating with your office lead pilot to plan and execute various mapping and inspection missions. You will manage all aspects of UAS missions, from pre-flight inspections, final flight planning and execution, setting up the payloads, UAS NOTAMs, FAA weather minimums, TFR's post-flight closeout procedures, and post-flight data checks for accuracy and sufficiency. Knowledge and understanding of post-processing data or preparing UAS deliverables are a plus.
In this position, you will:
Report to the Pittsburgh Lead Pilot
Plan flight operations: prepare aircraft and accessories daily, coordinate regulatory compliance, and generate flight paths to properly collect aerial data
On-site preparation: Aircraft preflight checks, sensor set up checks, set up necessary GPS survey equipment & aerial targets.
Perform regularly scheduled and as-needed maintenance on aircraft.
Travel to locations across our company footprint flying multiple UAS types
Ensure compliance with applicable project and industry aerial mapping standards
Troubleshoot and resolve accuracy or technical issues
Communicate and display sound technical knowledge of data quality considerations
Ensure data is handled according to CEC standards.
Support project managers with the ability to work on concurrent projects to make sure project expectations and deadlines are met
Pack and ship aircraft and equipment and coordinate paperwork and transportation of equipment
Verify that client safety training and drug testing has been completed prior to conducting UAS data collection
Additional advanced skill sets may include the items below. These are preferred but not required.
Prior experience in surveying
Familiarity with Trimble Business Center or similar platforms
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in aviation, engineering, survey, or geography with a concentration on surveying, geomatics or a related field
1+ years experience as a UAS Pilot preferred
UAS Mapping Experience preferred
Currently hold a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot license or possess an ability to obtain a UAS pilot license
Valid driver's license
Ability to pass drug screening throughout your employment
Able to pass a TSA background check
Ability to work hands-on with UAS systems including assembly and disassembly, flight planning software, completing preflight checklist, and airworthiness evaluations.
Ability to assess, process, and react appropriately while handling emergency situations
Testing and troubleshooting abilities
Strong and consistent organizational skills, initiative, and communications skills to ensure timely project completion
Applied understanding of aerial survey concepts and GNSS survey practices and instrumentation
Excellent computer and technical capacity to master multiple software packages, pieces of hardware and different workflows
Ability to travel 70% of the time
Ability to support additional field work with the land survey or confined space inspection groups as-needed
A strong desire to learn new technology
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing in outdoor environments
Ability to walk over various terrain to complete missions
Ability to work long periods including evenings and some weekends if required
Ability to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, heat, cold, and other adverse conditions
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Recommended:
UAS or Aviation related degree or certificate and/or Geospatial degree or certificate
Experience operating commercial UAS
Flight logbook showing previous UAS flight experience
Ability to evaluate the quality of acquired aerial data
Excellent RC piloting skills on both fixed-wing and multirotor aircrafts
Ability to comply with all policies and procedures developed for safety in dynamic environments
Civil Engineering, Environmental, and/or Surveying experience is a plus
