
Simulation Operations Specialist (Program Technician 1)

Department Overview
This position is responsible for providing technological and administrative support to the OHSU Simulation Program with a focus on clinical skills training of healthcare professionals. It operates within the OHSU Simulation Center located in the Robertson Life Sciences Building, a 20,000‑square‑foot facility that hosts multiple simulation environments and a growing footprint.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with OHSU Simulation Operations teams across OHSU and partner institutions, partnering directly with faculty to facilitate clinical skills labs for learners, and supporting the skill‑training needs of the School of Nursing, Physician Assistant learners, School of Medicine, and other hospital‑based teams.
Function/Duties of Position
Skills Lab & Community Engagement Support
Prepare and facilitate skills lab sessions in MRISC and off‑site as needed.
Provide day‑of direct user support during clinical skills lab events.
Select and organize teaching aides such as videos, supplies, and equipment to demonstrate improved patient‑care methods.
Develop familiarity with medical terminology, equipment, supplies, objectives, and procedures required to facilitate clinical skills events.
Locate and manage medical supplies needed to enhance the delivery of clinical skills activities (e.g., pharmacy drugs, dressings).
Collaborate with other program technicians for preparation and logistics of each standardized clinical skills training experience.
Ensure sign‑in forms and evaluation tools are ready.
Partner with Skills Lab Coordinator and Operations Leads to facilitate scheduling and programmatic delivery.
Actively participate in community engagement activities, both on‑site at MRISC and off‑site as required.
Healthcare Training Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer Support
Operate and maintain healthcare training equipment (e.g., life‑support systems, physiologic monitors, ultrasound machines, IV pump systems) and clinical task trainers.
Travel to the hill to pick up and return equipment as needed.
Collaborate with faculty to troubleshoot technologies during skills events.
Provide user orientation and support for equipment and clinical task trainers, including low/mid‑fidelity simpad manikins.
Maintain equipment and clinical task trainer inventory.
Offer consultation on new purchases of equipment, clinical task trainers, and simulation tools.
Collaborate with vendors to borrow additional manikins and task trainers to meet course objectives when available.
Collaborate with hospital departments to borrow additional equipment for simulation center activities, including transportation and servicing as appropriate.
Coordinate outgoing and incoming equipment loans and share agreements in partnership with the Skills Lab Coordinator for OHSU training events.
Audio Visual Equipment Support
Operate debrief room and classroom A/V technology, including projectors, speakers, and Crestron A/V switchers.
Provide user orientation and support for A/V technology.
Perform Level 1 triage of debrief room and classroom A/V equipment.
Laerdal SimCapture
Develop familiarity with A/V technology and recording software (SimCapture).
Record skills events using resident A/V technology and SimCapture.
Provide user orientation and support for B‑Line Medical.
Perform Level 1 triage of SimCapture sessions and debriefing.
Required Qualifications
Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program.
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a directly related field substitutes for two years of the required experience.
Experience working with A/V equipment, such as SimCapture.
Experience working with web‑based computer technology.
Experience providing multimedia service and support with direct customer contact.
Experience working with higher education faculty and professional students.
Experience serving customers and clients in high‑intensity environments.
Experience with database systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and ability to work with diverse groups—including students, faculty, staff, and IT teams.
Demonstrated positive teamwork attitude.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
