Position Summary
The Mammography Technologist III performs technical activities associated with screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to obtain high quality images of the breasts. They assist radiologists in diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to stereotactic imaging and biopsy, to evaluate and diagnose physiological changes in breast patterns and serve as an integral part of providing an exceptional patient care experience.
Shift Details
M - F / 7:30a - 5p Flex Shift based on coverage needs (Float between Huntersville/Lake Norman, University)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate mammographic and other imaging equipment/devices in accordance with organizational protocols
Position patients, using immobilization when necessary
Evaluate radiographs for image quality, adjusting position, density, or contrast and obtaining additional images as needed
Evaluate and present images to radiologists and perform additional post presentation images and/or diagnostic procedures, including ultrasound, core biopsy, needle localization, and stereotactic biopsy
Prepare exam/procedure rooms and equipment for studies, ensuring cleanliness and adequate stock/inventory of clinical supplies
Obtain, verify, and document all pertinent information for patient visits and procedures, including patient clinical history, prior imaging, orders, lab work, and authorization confirmation
Identify care requirements relative to each patient’s age-specific needs
Explain exams and procedures to patients
Provide post procedural care information and follow up instructions as directed radiologists
Use radiation safety measures and protective devices to comply with government regulations and ensure the safety of patients and staff
Assist with onboarding and training new Mammography Technician I’s, II’s, and III’s
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education / Licensing / Certification
Graduate of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
ARRT certification in radiography
ARRT advanced certification in mammography
BLS CPR certification
Experience (years and type)
3-5 years Mammography experience
Diagnostic training required
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to read and interpret medical reports, extract pertinent information from them and present that information in a concise and appropriate manner
Anatomic knowledge of breast tissue pattern and related structures as well as breast pathology and treatment of breast pathology
Knowledge of radiographic technique and positioning
Knowledge of ultrasound positioning and anatomy
Proficient in diagnostic imaging and stereotactic biopsy and imaging
Excellent customer service, both internal and external
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality
Travel Required (%)
50-75%
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Primarily walking and standing
Lift 25lbs.
Role may be exposed to radiation, infectious disease, and bloodborne pathogens
