Overview
The Ultrasound Technologist performs routine and advanced imaging procedures, supports other technologists, and ensures efficient patient flow. Responsibilities include operating and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment, participating in QA, managing image processing and archiving in PACS, and engaging in continuous education. Strong communication skills and alignment with CHRISTUS Health values are essential.
Responsibilities

Provide meaningful assistance to radiologists and referring physicians, enhancing physician satisfaction.
Protect patient confidentiality; only disclose confidential information when necessary for job duties.
Adapt patient assessment and care methods to accommodate unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, age‑specific, and developmental needs.
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards of care mandated by state and federal agencies and the hospital.
Perform examinations and procedures within the scope of the Manager’s license(s), certification(s), and/or documented competencies to assist in patient throughput.
Demonstrate flexibility by working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or required.
Ensure completed exams are scanned and stored correctly in PACS.
Follow PACS downtime procedures as a PACS Superuser and report any problems to the PACS administrator or designee.
Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions to the Director/Manager and/or biomedical personnel; perform appropriate follow‑up.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology or an accepted equivalent.
1 year of ultrasound scanning experience preferred; basic computer experience required.
Requires one of the following certifications within 1 year of hire:
Sonography (S) by ARRT
Abdominal (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
Preferences for additional certifications, if held, include:
Vascular Sonography (VS) by ARRT
Breast Sonography (BS) by ARRT
Breast (BR) RDMS by ARDMS
Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS
State licensure required if in New Mexico; DMS by MIRTP NMED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
