Principal Specialist Lab Manager
Location: Fort Wayne, IN. This is an on‑site role. The Multi‑Product Power & Digital (MPD) department designs FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for missiles, radars, and electronic warfare systems. The department seeks a Principal Specialist Lab Manager to lead the tactical and strategic direction for the Fort Wayne Engineering Labs.
What You Will Do
Serve as Fort Wayne site leader for Engineering Labs
Support and prepare for internal and external audits and assessments, including OSHA VPP, AS9100, and EHS&S
Lead process, system, and product improvements to enhance overall lab performance, safety, ergonomics, technical capabilities, and compliance
Create and maintain Lab Operation Procedures (LOP)
Ensure all Foreign Object Elimination (FOE) plans are current and followed
Enforce lab run rules and clean‑as‑you‑go techniques
Ensure lab personnel follow safety regulations and use required PPE
Ensure all chemicals are within expiration date and maintain tapes & eyewash stations
Act as main point of contact for all lab personnel requests and services
Maintain Lab Area Management System (AMIS) and Calibration & Preventive Maintenance System (ARAMIS)
Assist in managing engineering hardware inventories for GFE
Collaborate with facility leadership and initiate facility work requests as needed
Coach, review, and delegate work to junior engineers and engineering technicians
Maintain up‑to‑date lab access lists and provide access to authorized employees
Coordinate procurement requests from lab personnel and proper labeling of property
Coordinate closure of all Notification‑of‑Out‑of‑Tolerance equipment on time
Support customer interactions related to lab operations
Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers
Assist in managing engineering hardware inventories and locations of test equipment and materials
Conduct visual walkthroughs of labs for safety, security, and proper care & use of equipment
Ensure all lab equipment has legible property stickers and calibration stickers as appropriate
Qualifications You Must Have
Degree in STEM and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
Leadership experience with engineering labs for testing electronics such as printed circuit boards, circuit card assemblies, and electronic modules
Experience with Lab Area Management System and/or Calibration & Preventive Maintenance System
Experience leading lab teams or engineering teams
Experience supporting internal and external audits of AS9100, GFE, safety, OSHA, ergonomic, quality, and customer types
Qualifications We Value
Experience working with EHS&S, Property, Facilities, Security, and engineering teams
Experience with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540.3 calibration, testing standards, and ESD standard ANSI/ESD S20.20
Experience communicating and documenting technical topics and presenting to customers and management
Demonstrated mentorship of junior engineers or engineering technicians
Experience testing complex electronics subassemblies and systems

Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 US USD, depending on experience. RTX considers role, function, responsibilities, experience, location, education, and key skills when extending an offer.
