General Description
The Criminal Investigations division is seeking a Security Officer whose work will involve highly complex security enforcement work. Responsibilities include monitoring and patrolling grounds, receiving visitors, inspecting and safeguarding state buildings, properties, and equipment. Applicants may be required to work evenings. Responsibilities
Monitors, screens and authorizes entrance and departures of employees, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of agency facilities
Investigates all reports of disturbances or suspicious circumstances and reports them to a supervisor or manager. Notifies proper authorities immediately in cases of emergency conditions and serious threats (verbal and physical threats, etc.)
Conducts thorough and efficient random security patrols; maintains considerable familiarity with the buildings and grounds patrolled and knowledge of the building occupants
Provides technical guidance to less tenured officers; notifies other officers of pass‑ons and special orders
Escorts OAG employees to and from buildings after hours and other times as circumstances warrant
Conducts impartial inquiries regarding security incidents involving OAG employees, when directed
Takes appropriate actions to prevent injury or death of personnel and property losses due to theft, vandalism, fire, and medical emergencies
Composes reports with who, what, when, where and why information
Performs related work as assigned
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed‑upon work schedule
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Testifies as a witness in trial and formal hearings
Works overtime as needed
Minimum Qualifications – Security Officer I
Educational: Graduation from high school or equivalent
Knowledge: Must have knowledge how to provide building security to building occupants.
Skill: Able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Skill: Effective oral and written communication.
Skill: Exercising sound judgment and effective decision making.
Ability: Receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
Ability: Work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment.
Ability: Provide excellent customer service.
Ability: Work in person at assigned OAG work location, performing all assigned tasks within OAG work space each week (unless on approved leave).
Ability: Arrange for personal transportation for business‑related travel.
Ability: Work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
Ability: Lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability: Travel (including overnight travel) up to 5 %.
Minimum Qualifications – Security Officer II
All qualifications of Security Officer I.
Experience: One year of experience as a security guard; may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
Minimum Qualifications – Security Officer III
All qualifications of Security Officer II.
Experience: One additional year of experience as a security guard; may substitute 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: Using multiple database computer systems and utilizing Internet-based applications for retrieving information.
Knowledge: OAG Policy and Procedures manual.
Skills: Working with multiple criminal justice and law enforcement organizations.
Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak another language other than English.
