Who You Are:

You truly believe in animal welfare and are ready to make an impact by providing daily hands‑on support for the Kitten Nursery volunteers and kittens. You have excellent attention to detail and ensure kittens are fed and cleaned throughout daily shifts. You will assist with kittens moving to Foster Care, stock supplies, and train new volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participate in training of new volunteers, including proper cleaning and feeding procedures, animal handling, laundry, tours of the Lantos Center, and emergency protocols. Ensure volunteers receive adequate training under the guidance of the Kitten Nursery Coordinator and Lantos Center Veterinary Services Coordinator.

Determine which kittens qualify for admission to the Nursery with guidance from the Kitten Nursery Coordinator and Veterinary Services Coordinator.

Perform daily treatments for kittens as needed, including initiating treatments following a protocol established by staff veterinarians. Supervise kittens on quarantine for ringworm or panleukopenia.

Administer daily medical treatments as prescribed by staff veterinarians.

Assist the staff veterinarian with the adoption center vet list as needed.

Ensure all screening, health checks, medical treatments, vaccinations, dewormers, flea prevention, and relevant tests (FELV, FIV) are completed accurately and timely.

Keep the Nursery stocked with medications and supplies.

Gather supplies for animals either in foster or heading to foster from the Kitten Nursery.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Must pass a background check upon hire.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience; one year related experience or training is required. Prior animal handling experience is required, with veterinary setting experience highly preferred.

Knowledge of Chameleon database software (or ability to become proficient within first few weeks). Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, keyboarding, and data entry.

Valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory record.

Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence; effective oral communication with volunteers, foster parents, and staff.

Basic arithmetic skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using units, weight, and volume.

Frequent lifting and moving of up to 50–75 pounds.
