Job Overview
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Facilities Operations Services, the Facility Zone Manager leads facilities maintenance operations at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus. The role is responsible for the efficient and cost‑effective operations, maintenance, and management of all university facilities on the Foggy Bottom campus. The Manager plans and directs large‑scale building operations, coordinates with other Zone Managers and the Manager for Shared/Scheduled Services, and ensures timely responsiveness and consistent service delivery.
Responsibilities
Lead the effective, safe, and sustainable operations of the buildings and surrounding grounds within the designated zone, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, aesthetic maintenance, pest control, custodial services, and other auxiliary services.
Coordinate a broad range of services with zone leadership and peers, covering facility maintenance by all trades, capital maintenance, custodial services, energy and utilities systems, recycling and waste management, event set‑up, residential facilities coordination, and grounds maintenance.
Build and maintain solid relationships and open communication with stakeholders of each building, collaborating proactively with campus work control, planning, and dispatch functions to ensure proper execution of all work‑order requests, building emergencies, and discretionary maintenance projects.
Serve as key liaison with project managers on zone‑related capital projects, maintain expertise on building systems, and collaborate with campus management to create and expand an effective preventive maintenance zone‑based program.
Develop and maintain a disciplined and motivated workforce, implementing corrective disciplinary actions as necessary.
Collaborate with general services leaders to assign non‑routine custodial activities such as carpet shampooing, floor refinishing, pest control, and cleaning projects, planning their accomplishment in accordance with building occupancy.
Direct and train subordinate staff to develop their maximum potential and effectiveness.
Oversee inventory, supplies, equipment servicing, and maintenance to ensure availability and condition.
Enforce university and departmental policies, procedures, performance standards, and codes of conduct among assigned employees.
Maintain a systemized maintenance and cleaning program utilizing established frequencies, time standards, and methods.
Coordinate closely with related functions such as Safety and Security, GWorld access control, environmental health and safety, university and campus planning, and the design and construction of capital and deferred maintenance projects, including major repairs, renovations, and new construction.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and have at least four years of relevant professional experience. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position, or equivalent education, training, and experience may substitute.
Additional Required Licenses / Certifications
Valid driver’s license to operate university vehicles.

Proven leader with integrity and success in prior roles, capable of applying sound judgment and leading a diverse group of trades staff.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collegially with all organizational levels toward common objectives.
Skills
