Job Overview
The Supervisor of Turn Over Team at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for overseeing the turnover process, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with policies and regulations. This role requires an associate degree or relevant experience, managerial skills, knowledge of surgical policies, and effective communication with surgeons, staff. The supervisor also plays a role in managing performance, making decisions on staffing, and improving departmental productivity. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.
Responsibilities
Supervises the surgical turnover process.
Manages Turn Over Team staff on a daily basis to ensure quality, scheduling, and efficient staffing.
Evaluates and provides coaching to Turn Over Team and supply technicians.
Adheres to federal, state, and NMHS policies/procedures, guidelines, and laws.
Manages departmental compliance with regulatory accrediting bodies (e.g., OSHA, JCAHO, State Dept. Health, Financial Auditing institutions) to assure sound department management.
Interviews, hires, and trains new members of the turnover team and supply technicians.
Conducts performance reviews in a timely fashion.
Customer Service
Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, Team Coordinators, and Surgeons/Surgical staff to ensure patient and staff needs are met.
Interacts with Surgeons and Surgical staff to ensure positive patient outcomes.
Provides support to co-workers and other departments as required/requested.
Works collaboratively with Surgical Administration, Nurse Manager, Team Coordinators, and Surgeons/Surgical staff to ensure patient and staff needs are met.
Responds to management and internal departments in a timely manner.
Identifies and defines new process improvement opportunities.
Job Duties
Transports patients from nursing units to the holding preanesthesia unit (PAU).
Assist the circulating nurse to transport patients to the surgical area.
Transports specimens to the lab and delivers blood products from the blood bank to the surgical area according to established policies and procedures.
Transports sterilized trays, instruments, and equipment to assigned surgical rooms as needed.
Inspects sterile package integrity, storage conditions, and equipment for possible damage that would decrease its ability to perform needed functions.
Transports supplies and biohazard trash to and from the appropriate area designed for radioactive contamination.
Assists in cleaning assigned rooms during the turnover process.
May assist with mopping floors and wiping down beds/equipment, including trash removal.
Assists with departmental readiness for incoming patients, regulatory surveys, and OSHA compliance.
Assists the team in preparing for surgical cases.
Opens sterile supplies including disposables and surgical trays pertinent to the procedure.
Positions patients, holds extremities, and sets up equipment to increase surgical room utilization.
Helps limit traffic in and out of surgical rooms to reduce potential contamination of the sterile environment.
Performs preoperative shave preps as needed, according to policy and procedure.
Attends required in-services, annual reviews, and educational programs/training.
Qualifications
Education
Associate's Degree – Required
Bachelor's Degree – Preferred
Other (Experience) Willing to consider 4 years of OR setting experience in lieu of an Associate's degree – Required
Licenses and Certifications
Licenses and certifications as required by role (not detailed in original description).
Work Experience
1-3 years; Minimum 1 year managerial/supervisory experience – Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of environmental service guidelines of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), NMHS, and OR policies/procedures.
Knowledge of computer hardware/software.
Ability to lead the team with accuracy in delivering timely services and maintaining high department performance standards.
Effective communication with Surgeons/surgical staff, turnover team, supply technicians, and management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public served.
Ability to work well with individuals and groups.
