
CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECH (CST) - FULL TIME

Responsibilities
Perform patient care activities; individualizes perioperative care and assists with positioning to meet the needs of the patient and surgeon. Assists with proper positioning of patients by protecting nerves and bony prominences, maintains body alignment to ensure vascular flow and unobstructed respiratory ventilation, and maintains patient's privacy.
Ensure physical preparation of the surgical suite, including cleaning, stocking, and replacing supplies.
Open sterile supplies onto the sterile field using aseptic techniques. Ensure the integrity of the sterile field and initiate corrective measures as appropriate.
Comply with Surgery Center protocol and manufacturers guidelines for use, processing and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Check equipment for safe working order and effective cleaning prior to use. Remove defective instruments and equipment from service and document the nature of the problem.
Set up sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, electrosurgical equipment, suction, prosthesis, and solutions needed for each procedure according to Center standards. Scrub, gown, and glove according to established Center policy.
Identify all specimens and follow special instructions of the surgeon. Prepare surgical incision and apply post-op dressing per surgeon preference. Assist with transport of patients.
Assist in keeping surgeon\'s preference cards current by reporting needed changes to the circulating nurse and check cards at case end to ensure updates are complete. Prepare instruments for return to the processing department for decontamination and sterilization. Participate as an operating room team member to complete room turnover.
Performs OR duties and responsibilities; apply basic knowledge of all solutions and medications for use during the surgical procedure in accordance with OR standards. Maintain supplies for use during procedures and hand instruments to the surgeon, hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon. Use dexterity and economy of motion in passing surgical instruments.
Function as a team member during stress and crisis situations. Utilize cost-containment principles for use of supplies.

Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED. Formal training as an OR Technician. Required certified as a surgical technologist.
Preferred Education and Experience
CGRN preferred. Must obtain ACLS certification within 3 months of employment.
