Responsibilities
The registered nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, providing direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care, functioning within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN serves in leadership roles such as preceptor and participates in quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resources. Excellent communication skills, mentoring, and teaching skills are required. Some employees may need to drive a personal vehicle as part of their role. This position is eligible for TN sponsorship (requires state licensure and VisaScreen certification).
Qualifications
Graduate of a nursing program.
One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.
Additional Qualifications
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working in a team environment.
Computer skills required; prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on‑call.
Adaptability to unpredictable situations; demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
License or Certifications
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida – Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Midwest – Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Positions not on campus may not require current BLS competency as determined by the work area. Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
