Position Summary
Research Specialist – Contributing for the Pathology Services Core at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The successful candidate will become familiar with all aspects of working in the core, perform routine and non‑routine histology testing, assist with client projects, research and develop new methods, and may provide training and assistance in immunohistochemistry techniques.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine and non‑routine histology testing, including all aspects of histotechnology.

Assist in the research and development of new methods and tasks.

Provide training and assistance in immunohistochemistry techniques.

Work with clients to maximize data obtained from histology projects.

Maintain high‑quality laboratory standards, including attention to detail, QC practices, and thorough documentation.

Work collaboratively in a multi‑user laboratory environment with competing priorities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment or equivalent combination of training and experience from an appropriately accredited institution.

Histology or general laboratory experience, including embedding, microtome sectioning, hematoxylin & eosin, and special staining.

Familiarity with animal physiology and tissue identification.

Experience with digital pathology systems, slide scanning, or image analysis platforms.

Demonstrated ability to maintain high‑quality standards: attention to detail, QC practices, and documentation.

Experience working in a collaborative research, core facility, or multi‑user laboratory environment with competing priorities.

Schedule and Location
Full‑time, 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 8 am–5 pm, Chapel Hill, NC. Overtime may be required occasionally.
