Job Description

The following duties are normal for this position. General Purpose

This work provides assistance and support to the Director and Assistant Director of Communications in developing a comprehensive public relations program to educate the public and maintain a positive public image. This position serves the department's emerging needs with an expanded social media footprint and plays an important role in the City's efforts to disseminate information about City programs, services and other issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of complex, responsible, confidential duties and special projects.
Responsible for content and media creation to support city departments and initiatives, including websites, social media, electronic communication tools, video and photo production, copy/script writing, and simple graphic design for digital campaigns.
Works with Director and Assistant Director to ensure all forms of communications are coordinated, timely, accurate and "on message" to promote credibility, public trust, and the best interests of the City of Weston.
Creates graphics and animations for social media to correct dimensions; calendars and tracks social 'holidays' to ensure proper City participation; tracks analytics.
Skilled in the utilization of multiple social media platforms.
Produces, edits and distributes live and edited video content for Public Service Announcements, website, social media and other uses.
Prepare equipment for shoots/sessions.
Maintain the upkeep of studio, photo, audio visual, and broadcast equipment, including but not limited to cleaning and maintenance, maintain warranty information, product troubleshooting, and research for replacements as needed.
Host, record and edit City podcast.
Handles multiple projects simultaneously using good judgment in prioritizing work assignments.
Attends public events and engagements and assists with coordination, photography and video, including cataloging; holiday, night and weekend hours may apply.
Assists in maintaining multiple city event calendars on the website and intranet.
Creates content for the City Intranet.
Assist with public information and essential duties during citywide emergencies and incidents.
Ability to remain flexible and reorganize priorities and strategies as projects arise.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public administration, public relations, media, journalism or related field; Experience/exposure to customer relations, graphic design work, video editing & production, photography, social media management, and quality assurance. Must be proficient in computer applications as used by the City of Weston. Experience in Microsoft 365 products is a must. Must be highly organized and task-oriented.
Driver's License Required

Class E Florida driver's license.
FEMA Training

Completion of basic FEMA courses for Public Information in an emergency response is required within 6 months of employment (online courses).
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft 365; video-photo editing software; podcast equipment; Adobe Creative Cloud (including Premiere Pro and Photoshop); Canva; Facebook Live; Hootsuite; Constant Contact.
