Job Summary
The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, assists physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Prepares rooms and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient condition, and provides routine and emergency care during procedures. Contributes to orientation and training of other team members and helps with daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control initiatives through auditing and reporting.

Essential Functions

Assist physicians with arteriograms, catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional peripheral and coronary procedures, and thrombolytic therapy.

Follow national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff; provide emergency procedures such as CPR and defibrillation as needed.

Perform pre- and post-procedure care and monitoring.

Orient patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures and answer related questions to keep them relaxed.

Monitor patient ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances while in the electrophysiology lab and notify the physician of variances.

Run RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and record procedural documentation.

Manage and maintain images, including stenosis testing, formatting, and processing on cardiac and peripheral cases.

Collect and report registry and quality data in procedure rooms.

Gather catheterization data and prepare procedure reports.

Prepare and maintain sterile fields for lab procedures.

Order and maintain inventory of procedure room supplies and ensure rooms are adequately stocked; coordinate or audit resources during yearly inventories.

Perform routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notify appropriate team members for repairs.

Assist in orientation and training of new staff and students or any extra duties as established by supervisor/manager.

Oversee quality control monitoring such as NPSG auditing, turnaround times, and performance improvement initiatives (daily, monthly, and/or quarterly).

Participate in mutual governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees including LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects, inter-departmental committees, professional organization participation, and QC assurance with managers.

Transport patients to and from procedural areas.

Demonstrate good customer service skills.

Key Success Factors

Minimum education or experience: associate’s degree in a related field, completion of an accredited RCIS technical or associate’s degree program, or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.

Availability for on-call response requirements per facility/department policy.

Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular values, instrumentation, and techniques.

Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum associate’s degree or two years of work experience (preferred but not required). Preferred: graduate of an accredited RCIS related technical or associate’s degree program.

Experience:

Two years of Cath, EP, or vascular experience preferred but not required.

Licensure/Credential:

Must hold an ARRT-R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) and MRT through the Texas Medical Board or RCIS (Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) preferred.

Certification & Licensure

ACLS: obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer.

BLS: obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer.

ARRT-R Radiography, Cert Cardiac Device Spec (CCDS), Cert EP Specialist (CEPS), Medical Radiologic Tech (MRT), Reg Cardio Electrophysiology (RCES), Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Spec (RCIS). Must meet at least one of the following: ARRT-R and MRT through the Texas Medical Board, or RCIS, or RCES, or CEPS, or CCDS.

Schedule & On-Call
Full-time 4 days a week – 10-hour day shifts (Monday-Friday, 6:00 am-4:30 pm). Includes holidays, night call coverage for emergent procedures, and on-call duties 7-8 days per month, including weekends and holidays. STEMI call required; response time to facility within 30 minutes of notification.
