Executive Assistant – Editor-in-Chief
The Minnesota Star Tribune is seeking a sharp, resilient, and highly organized Executive Assistant at its headquarters in Minneapolis, MN. The role supports the Editor‑in‑Chief and senior editorial leadership in a dynamic newsroom environment where priorities shift with the news cycle.
Responsibilities
Executive support and calendar management – maintain an active, fluid calendar prioritizing meetings based on editorial or strategic urgency.
Gatekeeper – screen calls, emails, and community requests professionally.
Assist with regular newsroom communications.
Editorial & office operations – manage expense reports and approve invoices for freelancers and contractors, maintain the freelance database.
Organize newsroom town halls, editorial meetings, training, and external donor events.
Supervise the editorial assistant who handles mail, letters to the editor, and other newsroom tasks.
Project coordination – track long‑term projects, recruitment and hiring process, schedule candidate interviews, manage candidate correspondence, maintain newsroom vendor contracts.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years experience as an Executive Assistant, preferably in media, publishing, communications, or a fast‑paced industry.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated discretion and integrity handling confidential information.
Resilience to work effectively in a high‑pressure environment with possible night and weekend interruptions.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $63,900 – $75,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
