Grid Modernization Engineer

Role Summary
Grid Modernization Engineers design and implement smart grid technologies including advanced metering infrastructure, distribution automation, demand response systems, virtual power plants, and grid‑scale energy storage integration that enable power grids to accommodate high renewable energy penetration and bidirectional energy flows. They work with utilities, grid operators, and technology vendors to transform traditional power infrastructure into responsive, digitally‑controlled smart grids. Germany's Energiewende and Gulf grid modernization programs represent the largest European and MENA demand sources.

Purpose: To lead the technical design and implementation of smart grid technologies, ensuring the seamless integration of renewable energy sources and the deployment of AI‑driven distribution management systems.

Impact: This role is pivotal in achieving our 2030 Net Zero commitments and ensuring grid resilience against climate‑induced volatility while maintaining strict compliance with the 2026 EU AI Act.

Team Structure: Member of the Digital Grid Transformation Unit, a multidisciplinary team of 12 including Data Scientists, OT Security Specialists, and Regulatory Liaisons.

Reports To: Director of Grid Modernization

Working Conditions
Travel Required: 15%

Standard business hours with occasional on‑call support for critical grid stabilization events.

Physical Requirements

Ability to visit and navigate electrical substations and construction sites.

Occasional requirement to wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for site inspections.
