Overview
The Medical Assistant (MA) at Mayfield Brain & Spine will support neurosurgeons, PM&R physicians, physician assistants (PAs), and nurse practitioners (NPs) by preparing patients and charts for office visits, assisting during clinic days, managing prescriptions, imaging, referrals, and follow-ups. This role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma required, graduate of Medical Assisting program preferred
Prior experience as a Medical Assistant preferred, not required
Skills
Practical knowledge of neurosurgical procedures and medical office processes
Proficient in clinical office duties
Demonstrates excellent customer service
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving, problem prevention, and decision-making skills
Ability to convey empathy
Excellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to maintain composure and restore calm in a stressful situation
Uses good judgment and diplomacy when dealing with others
Desire and ability to work in a team environment
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate physician office hours
Primary Responsibilities
Provide clinical office support to neurosurgeons, nurse practitioners, or pain management physicians.
Essential Functions
Help develop and maintain a corporate culture that supports the mission and values of Mayfield Clinic
Prepare the patient chart before the office visit by gathering all test results, films, and reports, and uploading them to the correct section of the chart.
Comply with medical records standards by completing allergy notations, problem list, and concomitant medications sheet. Ensure patient completion of medical history.
Demonstrate knowledge and skill in clinic office practice and perform clinical services, including suture/staple removal, dressing changes, vital signs, injections, and operation of EMG equipment, if required. Interview new patients and verify medical histories before the physician/provider sees them.
If applicable, schedule and pre-certify outpatient testing. Ensure the patient is informed about scheduled tests, including the date, time, place, and special instructions.
