Role:

The Pharmacy Technician II supports pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across Carilion Clinic settings. This role involves obtaining accurate medication histories from patients in the Emergency Department, entering and updating data in the computer system, using automated medication dispensing equipment, and assisting pharmacists in pharmaceutical care.

Responsibilities

Review and update the patient\'s medication records for pharmacist review and physician ordering.

Maintain accurate documentation.

Use Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment to stock medications in the Emergency Department, maintain inventory levels, and assist nursing in the removal and reconciliation of medication discrepancies.

Maintain pharmacy records for regulatory compliance.

Support medication safety committees and reporting systems.

Support medication access and affordability through patient advocacy, financial coordination, and assistance program facilitation.

Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient service.

Must Have or Be Ready to Obtain VA Registry
The Pharmacy Technician

Must have or be ready to obtain Virginia registry as required.

Qualifications

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications, strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, and proficiency with general office equipment and computer use. Ability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems, manage time effectively, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimal supervision.
