Responsibilities
Performs each waived, moderate, or highly complex test authorized by CLIA, following CFR 493.1425, 493.1495, and 493.1463, and possesses a degree of skill commensurate with education, training, or experience.
Adheres to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
Follows quality control policies and documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
Performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines introduced into the laboratory.
Performs and documents maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed on instruments and equipment.
Reviews accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
Recognizes age‑specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
Ensures proficiency testing samples are tested the same way as patient samples and does not collaborate with other laboratories prior to reporting proficiency testing results.
May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
Assists in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
Adheres to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
May serve as Lead Tech during shift in absence of supervisor, responsible for section or department during shift.
May have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by department manager/director.
Qualifications
ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred.
Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
Current and Valid State License if required by state.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, including wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $27.83 to $40.30 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at hiring based on skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
