Patient Care Assistant (PCA)
Department/Unit: Inpatient Rehab - E8
Work Shift: Staffing Options Program (United States of America)
Salary Range: $41,923.00 - $54,500.00
Responsibilities
The PCA works under the direction of the Registered Nurse, collecting patient data and completing personal care tasks. The primary duties include:
Perform point‑of‑care testing such as whole blood glucose.
Turn, position, and mobilize patients.
Assist with patient care to facilitate progress toward discharge, including transitions within acute care stays.
Execute technical procedures such as blood draw and electrocardiography.
Collaborate with Materiel Coordinators to ensure resources for patient care are available, stocked, and stored.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe care environment.
Provide activity companionship for patients requiring observation.
Assist in delivering patient care as part of the caregiving team, ensuring competent and compassionate care.
Collect pertinent data (vital signs, height, weight, food and fluid intake and output) and report abnormal findings to the RN and care team.
Participate in care planning and nursing report processes, incorporating patient/family rights to decision making.
Administer personal care including bathing, oral care, skin care, dressing, and toileting.
Support patients during eating, hydration, grooming, and ambulation, using assistive devices as needed.
Apply safe patient handling and infection control practices.
Document all care in the patient record and report progress toward goals.
Qualifications and Expectations
Experience with bedside patient care preferred.
Knowledge of basic nursing procedures and infection control.
Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and team members.
Ability to work collaboratively within interprofessional teams.
A commitment to maintaining a safe and clean care environment.
